Young Graduates and Fellows from Jordan, Tunisia, Egypt, and Greece Visit the Sarajevo Information Centre
As part of an international conference hosted by the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), young graduates and fellows from Jordan, Tunisia, Egypt, and Greece visited the Information Centre on the ICTY Sarajevo, which operates as an organizational unit within the City of Sarajevo.
The conference, organized by the Lazord Foundation from October 19 to 23, 2026, brings together young leaders to explore leadership, civic engagement, and the role of national and international institutions. The visit was organized as part of the “Community Day” initiative, during which participants visit various institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina to gain first-hand insight into their work and contribution to the community.
The young graduates and fellows had the opportunity to learn about the work and mandate of the Information Centre, which preserves and promotes the legacy of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. As a reminder, the ICTY was a United Nations court established to deal with war crimes committed during the 1990s conflicts in the Balkans. During its mandate, which lasted from 1993 to 2017, the tribunal irreversibly transformed international humanitarian law, provided victims with a voice to testify about the atrocities they endured, and proved that those suspected of bearing the greatest responsibility for atrocities committed during armed conflicts can be held accountable.
During the visit, the guests toured the Centre’s documentary exhibition titled “Overview of the Work and Contribution of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY),” which represents just a portion of the rich Hague legacy. Authentic documents retrieved from the ICTY archives, along with accompanying photographs, transcripts of testimonies, and statements, allowed the guests to gain a clearer perspective on the trials, the presentation of physical evidence, and witness testimonies. The visit also served as a platform for an open discussion, where the young graduates asked questions and shared their views on the lessons learned.
The activity concluded successfully with a tour of the museum exhibitions and historical displays inside Sarajevo City Hall (Vijećnica).
