At the upcoming 31st commemoration of the Srebrenica genocide, Mayor Samir Avdić hosted the official send-off for the Sarajevo city delegation participating in this year’s Peace March. The delegation was led by the President of the City Council, Alen Girt, and City Councillor Amer Herenda. Avdić handed over the flag of the City of Sarajevo to the marchers, which will fly along the route and in Potočari.

“This year, the participation of the City of Sarajevo in the Peace March carries deep and powerful symbolism. This expedition is an act of living memory, paying tribute to innocent victims and fighting an eternal battle against oblivion. Every step on this path is a step of solidarity with the survivors, sending a message that the pain of Srebrenica remains an eternal wound on the face of humanity. Sarajevo, a city that endured the longest siege in modern history and felt the horrors of suffering, understands the tragedy of Srebrenica very well,” emphasized Avdić.

By bringing the flag of the capital city of BiH to Potočari, Sarajevo is sending a message of unbreakable unity, empathy, and institutional support for the culture of remembrance. The victims will never be alone, because the capital city preserves the truth about the genocide and, above all, shares a joint aspiration for justice, peace, and dignity.

The Peace March is a 100-kilometer-long journey that lasts for three days. Moving from Nezuk to Potočari, it symbolizes the path taken by Bosnian boys and men who tried to escape execution in July 1995, seeking salvation and freedom in free territory.
