Deputy Mayor Mirela Džehverović at the premiere of the documentary film “Sarajevo Spring that Endures”

As part of the program marking the Days of the Siege of Sarajevo (1992–1995), the premiere of the documentary Sarajevo Spring That Endures, directed by Nihad Kreševljaković, was held this evening at the City Hall. The event was organized by the City of Sarajevo and the Public Institution MES.

The film offers an intimate and thoughtful perspective on the legacy of the siege through the lens of younger generations, opening space for understanding how the experience of war is passed on and remains present in the collective memory of society.

Deputy Mayor Mirela Džehverović, emphasized the role of young generations in preserving memory and building the future:

“The strength of the spiritual resistance of Sarajevo’s citizens during the siege has been reborn in this film. The timeless spirit of Sarajevo continues its journey as a flame of peace, whose torch is proudly carried today by young people. Therefore, let us give youth a chance to lead us, in the full brilliance of their creativity and talent, toward a better future.”

The film’s author, Nihad Kreševljaković, highlighted the importance of intergenerational dialogue and the need for a thoughtful preservation of the siege’s legacy:

“People of my generation strive to find a model for preserving the values from that period in the most meaningful and useful way, as it was crucial in shaping the identity of this country and the people who live in it.”

The premiere was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, as well as numerous representatives from all government levels.

The project was supported by its’ partners: the Public Enterprise Sarajevo, the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Sarajevo, the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo, and the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP).

The City of Sarajevo and the Public Institution MES will continue to support projects that contribute to fostering a culture of remembrance, empowering young people, and building a society based on the values of freedom, dignity, and responsibility.
