This year marks the 84th anniversary of the Igman March, one of the most significant partisan campaigns during the National Liberation Struggle in the Second World War.

On this occasion, Sarajevo Mayor Samir Avdić hosted a reception today at Sarajevo City Hall for representatives of veterans’ associations and antifascists from countries of the former Yugoslavia, ahead of the central commemorative event to be held tomorrow at Veliko Polje on Mount Igman.

During the reception, Mayor Avdić emphasized the importance of preserving historical memory and the fundamental values on which the antifascist struggle is founded. He noted that the City of Sarajevo provided support to the organizers to ensure that the commemoration takes place in a dignified manner and in the spirit of unity.

“Sarajevo not only remembers its antifascist past, but lives it every day. These are the values that have shaped our identity, and we have a responsibility to preserve them and pass them on to future generations,” Mayor Avdić stated.

Following a tour of City Hall, accompanied by Information Center staff member Ismena Čaušević, the guests visited the ‘Walter Defends Sarajevo’ Museum, after which they joined the program entitled ‘In Anticipation of the Igman March’ at the Bosnian Cultural Center.

The reception at City Hall was also attended by Mirsad Ćatić, President of the Association of Veterans of the National Liberation War (SABNOR) of Sarajevo Canton.
