The City of Sarajevo and the Office for Climate Change and Sustainable Development of the University of Sarajevo Rectorate hosted today a group of students and professors from Hamburg at Sarajevo City Hall. 🎓

The guests were welcomed by Mayor Samir Avdić, who extended a warm welcome to the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. 🤝

In his welcoming address, Mayor Avdić emphasized the importance of synergy among European universities and constructive dialogue with institutions, particularly on relevant and attractive topics such as sustainable development. 🌱

“This exchange, focused on an area that requires international cooperation, shared knowledge, and fresh perspectives from younger generations, is extremely important to us,” said Mayor Avdić, highlighting that “cities today face numerous challenges related to climate change, energy transition, and mobility.”

According to the Mayor, addressing these challenges is possible through concrete cooperation between academic representatives, local authorities, and citizens.

“Sarajevo is actively working on sustainability through projects and international partnerships. We firmly believe that learning from one another significantly helps us build more resilient cities,” Avdić concluded, wishing the guests a pleasant stay in Sarajevo, inspiring discussions, and meaningful connections that will continue beyond the visit. 🌟

The meeting also provided an opportunity to present the City’s Sustainable Development Service and the ongoing processes it leads, as well as a guided tour of City Hall, one of the symbols of the Bosnian capital. 🏛️

The student exchange program is implemented within the project “Green Transition: Promotion of Circular Economy in Cities and Municipalities in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” carried out by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Government, within the framework of the Regional Climate Partnership between Germany and the Western Balkans.

The long-standing partnership between GIZ and the City of Sarajevo is based on mutual trust and a shared vision of sustainable development.

Its success is confirmed by numerous high-quality projects that today contribute to improving the quality of life of Sarajevo’s citizens.
