The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies once again Visits Bosnia and Herzegovina – Sarajevo, Srebrenica, and Mostar!
The Deputy Mayors of Sarajevo, Mirela Džehverović and Predrag Puharić, welcomed a group of students from the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies at the Sarajevo City Hall.
The visit was organized as part of the program “Conflict Management and Humanitarian Action,” which was also held last year.
“Our City Hall is open to all friends from around the world, especially students. The arrival of guests from Doha has now become a beautiful tradition that we will continue to nurture. We are twin cities, and our cooperation must be concrete — to the benefit of all our citizens,” said Džehverović and Puharić.
The delegation, led by Program Coordinator Sara ElKhatib, also had the opportunity to visit and learn about the work of the Sarajevo Information Centre and the rich history of Sarajevo City Hall.
To deepen their understanding, students took part in a practical session within the museum exhibition “The Tribunal’s Legacy Through the Judgments of the ICTY,” where they learned about grave violations of international humanitarian law and explored the topic of the humanization of warfare in the Hague and Geneva Conventions.
Students also discussed the codification of the laws of war, which define the rules and conduct of warfare, with special attention given to the history and the general structure of the crime of genocide.
According to the guests, the aim is to provide students with an opportunity to learn about the complexity of conflicts, humanitarian issues, and peacebuilding efforts in post-conflict settings.
During this field trip, students will also have the opportunity to engage with representatives of local and non-governmental organizations, academics, and experts in this field.
