Sarajevo paid tribute to the victims of the Srebrenica genocide today by sending off a convoy with the coffins of ten identified victims, who will be buried on July 11th at the Potočari Memorial Center. in front of the Sarajevo City Hall (Vijećnica), The solemn convoy was seen off by Mayor Samir Avdić, along with deputies Mirela Džehverović and Predrag Puharić, city councillors, and employees of the City of Sarajevo, by praying (Fatiha) and laying down the lilies. “Every year, as we send off the coffins, we feel an indescribable pain that does not fade. May the victims find their eternal peace, and may their names and destinies forever remain a warning to humanity that genocide must never happen again anywhere,” said Mayor Avdić. The youngest victim is twenty-year-old Senad (Zaim) Jusić, born in 1975, who disappeared in July 1995 in the Bratunac area, and whose remains were exhumed in 2022 at the Kameničko Brdo site. The oldest victim is Ramo (Mustafa) Dautović, born in 1939, who disappeared in the Zvornik area, and whose remains were found in 2001 in the Kamenica – Čančari mass grave; he will be buried this year alongside his previously found brother, Juso. After passing through Sarajevo, the convoy continues its journey toward Srebrenica, on planning to stop in front of the Town Mosque.
